Get in shape girl
Will it surprise you that this one of my favorite books as a child?! I think it was probably my older sisters first and then I got my hands on it and treasured it. After that I moved on to the Cindy Crawford workout tape -lol. I have always loved exercising - nothing gives me more mental clarity and energy.
It has always made me sad when people take what can be one of the best confidence boosters and instead use as another way to tell themselves they aren’t measuring up. This can show up in the mindset that a workout isn’t worth it if it isn’t an hour. Or the person that tries something challenging and berates themselves for not being better. Or the person who meant to leave time for moving, but life got in the way.
The thing about exercise is that it is a gift. Not everyone gets to do it. The fact that we have the time and energy to do it can be a joy. It has immediate returns for our mental state and physicality, and is a longterm investment in our health and well being. It also has huge returns in our ability to focus.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t hard, and it isn’t going to be perfect. Some days showing up is the challenge. Other days an external factor could derail your plans. Don’t bag it! Make it happen for yourself. Be flexible and adjust, but if you have chosen to invest in yourself, you need to make that deposit. Take pride in consistency, not perfection.
